Whether it's done by a relative or a doula, support for the intense transformation taking place is essential.”

My journey to doula - ing.

It was about three years ago that I heard the mysterious word ‘doula’ for the first time. I vividly remember standing in a kitchen talking to my Aussie friend who knew that I’ve been a Nanny for over a decade and she asked me a question I came across multiple times yet this time I actually heard it:

‘’Do you think you would like to be a Nanny for the rest of your life?’’

  • And then I realised that although I absolutely love working with children, I wish to be a person who is informing, loving, respecting, listening, embracing, advocating and assisting women prenatally, during labour and after. I knew I wanted to have that one-on-one time and connection with pregnant women. I went on and on and she exclaimed with excitement: ‘’Agnes, you should be a birth doula!!’’ I did not know that my passion had a name let alone it was a profession that has been carried out for many years!

This conversation planted a seed of inspiration in me. At that time I was enrolled in a program in London that focused on Biblical studies and Greek. After I graduated I did an internship at a Christian charity and in my free time I completed an online course called Specialisation In Newborn Care. Then I moved to Cambridge where I got a job as a Full Time Live-In Nanny. I had an opportunity to support a lovely family who were expecting another baby. It was an amazing experience that confirmed my desire to become a Doula. Now my goal is to help your family feel confident in your decisions and comfortable with your journey ahead. I hope you will think of me as a comforting presence and knowledgeable friend that only has YOUR best interests at heart and at the forefront of my mind.
